Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag on Thursday turned the clock back with a blazing half-century for the Diamonds XI against Shahid Afridi-led Royals XI side at the inaugural St Moritz Ice Cricket Challenge. Virender Sehwag led an XI boasting the likes of Australia’s Mike Hussey and Andrew Symonds, Sri Lankan stars Mahela Jayawardene, Lasith Malinga and Tillakaratne Dilshan and Indian pacer Zaheer Khan. And, just like 10 years back, when he had thrashed a young Shoaib Akhtar on turf wickets, Virender Sehwag did the same in front of 500-odd spectators. India’s explosive former Test opener hit five sixes in his 62.
Sehwag smashed his first-ever Ice cricket 50 in just 25 balls to help his team post a respectable 164/9 in 20 overs. Sehwag was given company by former Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds, who scored 40 off 30 balls. Following his exploits at the St Moritz in temperatures below zero degrees, Sehwag took to Twitter and posted a brilliant one-liner on his knock. The post was a massive hit and also found a fan in the form of former captain Sourav Ganguly. Sehwag wrote, “Hathiyar chhode hain ,chalana nahi bhoole hain 🙂 Great fun on the ice.”
