A winter storm will move through the Lehigh Valley this weekend and could bring significant snowfall to parts of the area, less than 48 hours after some areas saw near-record warmth.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch in effect from Saturday evening through early Sunday morning for wet, heavy snow. The warning came a day after highs pushed into the upper 60s in Allentown.
The track of the storm this weekend would bring the heaviest snow amounts to the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos, with amounts decreasing as you move south. This would mean 4 to 6 inches of snow in Carbon, Monroe, Berks, Lehigh and Northampton counties, but lower amounts closer to the Interstate 95 corridor.
The high end totals of the storm could bring as much as eight inches of snow to Mount Pocono. Immediately east, New Jersey could see more snow than the Lehigh Valley.
Because of the tight gradient in snowfall amounts, the weather service says any small shift in the track could change the expected snowfall. If the storm shifts northwest, the amounts will be higher in the Lehigh Valley and if it moves southeast they will be lower.

A winter storm watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Anyone with plans on Saturday evening should expect difficult travel conditions with significant reductions in visibility.
