When it comes to runway beauty, there's always plenty of inspiration to be found backstage. From rainbow contour to allover glitter, Fashion Month beauty delivers looks we might not dream up on our own. That was definitely the case at today's Gucci show, where one model added a prosthetic third eye to her makeup look.
It's clear that Gucci's Alessandro Michele is heavily influenced by the worlds of film and history; previous sources of runway inspiration demonstrate his take on iconic periods of history ranging from the Renaissance to the '80s. At Milan Fashion Week, the latest epoch on the creative director's mind was the the postmodern. Case in point: runway models reimagined as "cyborgs" that are questioning identity as a social construct.
"Gucci Cyborg is post-human: it has eyes on its hands, faun horns, dragon's puppies and doubling heads," read the Fall 2018 show notes. "It's a biologically indefinite and culturally aware creature. The last and extreme sign of a mongrel identity under constant transformation. The symbol of an emancipatory possibility through which we can decide to become what we are." Bet you're wondering how all of that translates to the beauty looks on the runway.
