Boston Celtics rumors: Al Horford was second-to-last 2018 NBA All-Star pick for Team Stephen

Boston Celtics star Al Horford is one of the most (if not the most) important player on the team, but he isn't your prototypical NBA All-Star -- a Do-The-Little-Things big man averaging just over 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists per game.

So ESPN's report that Horford was the penultimate selection in the NBA's first-ever All-Star draft might not come as much of a surprise (the last pick, according to ESPN's Chris Haynes, was LaMarcus Aldridge). After all, All-Star games are more about freakish athleticism, flashy handles, deep 3-pointers and big dunks than they are about pick-and-pop set shots, great screens, high-post passing and defensive rotations.

Prior to the All-Star game, fans and media (and eventually players) called for the draft to be televised, but Haynes interviewed NBPA executive director Michele Roberts, who succinctly summed up the NBPA's issue with letting everyone know how the teams were chosen.

"I don't know what the big brouhaha was," Roberts told Haynes. "Ultimately, people wanted to see the face of the guy who was picked last. That may be fun television, but why?"

Horford likely won't care much. The 31-year-old is measured about nearly everything, and like Aldridge in Haynes' story, it's a pretty safe bet he views the opportunity to play in the All-Star game as an honor, no matter where he was picked.
