Mesut Ozil's hopes of a January move to Manchester United are in tatters, report football.london.
Arsenal’s German World Cup winner has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford in recent weeks, with some reports suggesting he has already told teammates he will be linking up again with Jose Mourinho - who was in charge of Ozil during his time with Real Madrid.
Butt according to sources in Manchester, if Ozil does join United - he will have to wait until the end of the season when his contract expires so he can move on a free transfer.
The Manchester Evening News claims that the 29-year-old has been advised to run his current Arsenal deal down if he wants to be handed a pay hike in the summer.
Currently Ozil earns around £150,000 a week at Arsenal, who are willing to raise that to well in excess of £200,000 a week to extend his stay.
